Tricks and tips to get the optimal Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and choose the rightrental home:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Oceanfront Condo on the Outer Banks has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

Tips to have a smooth stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the host immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
