Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Kill Devil Hills. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and choose your prefect Kill Devil Hills vacation home:

  • To start, have your family agree to trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly downtown home with private hot tub, grill, large back deck, W\/D has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If not, email the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Call the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
