Finding the best vacation home experience:
When to visit Kill Devil Hills & When to book:
- Summer is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your search:
- Choose your dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Walking distance to everything you need! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is best for your trip.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills destination you are enamored with, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
