Our top Vacation rental tips:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • To find the best value, try changing your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the best vacation home in the Kill Devil Hills area:

  • Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Three-story home with balconies, hot tub, heated pool, theatre, & game room has 14 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
