Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. Booking your Kill Devil Hills vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Make a plan and pick your prefectvacation home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. K1208 Going to Carolina. Oceanfront, Pool, Hot Tub, Pool Table, Theater has 10 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
