Strategies for getting the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Booking your Kill Devil Hills vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Dogs OK has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
