Tips to get the perfect Kill Devil Hills rental experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer time is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Booking your Kill Devil Hills vacation home in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to choose and book the rightvacation home:
- Start by having your group choose vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Historic Cottage Steps from the Beach and Dog Friendly! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
