  • Approximately 624 square feet

Constructed in 1954 and added to the Kill Devil Hills inventory of historic homes in 2015, this bungalow harkens to a more simple and delightful vacation experience. Steps from the beach, dining and Avalon Pier, but in a peaceful location with a good deal of privacy!

Appreciate the salt air and ocean breeze without leaving the property! Rocking chairs and bar stools provide seating in the side porch/breezeway. The ground level deck in back has bench seats and throw pillows for your comfort.

While in the breezeway, take a look at the rustic stand created by a local artisan using the home's original solid wood front door and heart pine lumber harvested from the Roanoke Island property of the one and only Andy Griffith!

Everything you need to begin the best vacation is supplied! Just drop your bags and take a walk to the beach!

Tips for getting the best vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the best vacation home in the Kill Devil Hills area:

  • Select your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Historic Cottage Steps from the Beach and Dog Friendly! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. text the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
