Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:

When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and picking yourrental home:

  • To start, have your family agree to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Hugo's Hideaway - 6 Minute Walk to the Beach - HOT TUB has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
