Tips for getting the perfect vacation property experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To find the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and pick the right Kill Devil Hills vacation home:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • 600 ft to the beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills destination you simply love, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

More tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
