Tips and Tricks to get the best Kill Devil Hills rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best rental within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Kill Devil Hills attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to pick the perfect rental home in Kill Devil Hills:
- Start by having your family choose vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Pet Friendly Home with Private Tiki Bar - 3-minute drive to the beach! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
During your stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
