How to get the best vacation property experience:

Find your best deal:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, selecting, and booking a perfectvacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Pet Friendly Home with Private Tiki Bar - 3-minute drive to the beach! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
