If you want to discover on two wheels, there are three beach cruisers and a bicycle trailer for kids available as well. When you return, the outdoor shower is ideal for rinsing off the sand. Unwind downstairs on the screened-in patio or grab a spot on the couch while you relax in the central AC. Vacation rental tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- June, July, and August are high season in Kill Devil Hills. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Selecting the best rental home in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- To start, have your group choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Updated, dog-friendly home with fenced yard, WiFi, central AC - close to beach has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is optimal for your trip.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your stay:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
