Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Find your best deal:
- To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Kill Devil Hills restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the perfect rental in Kill Devil Hills:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. West Side Near Avalon Pier ? Hot Tub???? Dog Friendly????????? Firepit, Fenced in Yard has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
Advice for a great stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- During arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
