Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- To book the most suitable rental within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Kill Devil Hills restaurants and activities.
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Make a plan and choose your prefectrental:
- First, have your group decide on dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 2 Double Beds Guestroom with Street View has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If not, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
