Rental booking tips and tricks:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Summer months are high season in Kill Devil Hills. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking your prefect Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- To start, have your family decide on date ranges and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. 201 My Happy Place by First Flight Rentals has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
