Tips and Tricks for getting the best Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in Kill Devil Hills. Book your Kill Devil Hills vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking your Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. 6 Bedroom, Oceanfront, Historical Landmark has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
