How to get the best Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summer months are high season in Kill Devil Hills. Reserve your rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. 6 Bedroom, Oceanfront, Historical Landmark has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
