Tricks and tips to get the best vacation property experience:

Find your best deal:

  • In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by having your group agree to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. C and Sound Cottage\nfamily friendly, hammocks, outdoor shower, 1\/2 mi to ocean has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
