Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Kill Devil Hills. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and pick the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- Start by having your family choose dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Luke’s Retreat has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a certain Kill Devil Hills attraction you crave, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
