Strategies for getting the perfect Kill Devil Hills rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, change your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, picking, and booking the perfectrental:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. First Flight Retreat 215: Oceanfront condo, Great Views & Easy Walk to Beach! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
- At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
