Tips and Tricks for getting the best Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. To get the largest rental home within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Kill Devil Hills restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guides contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Finding the perfect vacation rental:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Best of My Love:Oceanfront, heated pool, hot tub, elevator, rec and theater room has 14 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective.
