Tips and Tricks for getting the best Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:

When to go & When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home:

  • Summer months are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Reserve your Kill Devil Hills rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Make a plan and pick the best Kill Devil Hills rental home:

  • Select your dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Sleeps 28
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is best for your trip.
  • Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your contract.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
