Our top Kill Devil Hills vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Finding the best value:
- June, July, and August are high season in Kill Devil Hills. Booking in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the perfect rental in Kill Devil Hills:
- First, have your family select date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Oceanside home just 35 yards to the beach w/ elevator, pool, and hot tub! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
