Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- First and foremost, have your family decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Outer Banks Beach Club charming oceanside resort with private beach and pools has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation group.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
