Tricks and tips to get the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Reserve your Kill Devil Hills rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Post Flight-Prime Location has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Have a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
