Our top Kill Devil Hills rental booking tips:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Kill Devil Hills. Reserve your Kill Devil Hills vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Scout's Harbour Family Bayhouse! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
