Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, try changing your family's Kill Devil Hills vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Select vacation week and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Great spot for September surf fishing! Condo in Kill Devil Hills. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
