Finding the best Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Kill Devil Hills. Booking your Kill Devil Hills vacation home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning, selecting, and booking the right Kill Devil Hills rental home:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sound Views! Brand New 3 bedroom has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills destination you simply love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
