Getting the best Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Reserve your Kill Devil Hills rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the best rental:
- First, have your family commit to date ranges and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Cotton's Cabana, 3-bedroom duplex in KDH, NC, pet friendly, just steps from the beach. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before booking the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
