Finding the best rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. Booking in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Waterfront dog-friendly with private boat dock, community pool & tennis courts has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Tips for your stay:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- At Check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
