Tips to get the best Kill Devil Hills rental experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking in Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose the bestrental home:
- Start by having your group decide on dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Affordable Family Vaca 380 steps to the Beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Contact the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
