The Coziest Coastal Cottage on the Outer Banks
If you're looking for a comfortable coastal bungalow for your Outer Banks hideaway, then The Captain's Quarters is it! This adorable soundside bungalow is the epitome of appeal. Ideal for a charming hideaway or a modest family, this 2-bedroom, 1-bath vacation home has everything you need to relax and savor everything the Outer Banks has to offer.
When you walk through the front door of this open floorplan, you will be greeted by modern furnishings with a retro charm. Parlor on the couch or one of the two upsized armchairs. Across from the living area is where you will find the dining area tucked away. It features a round table with seating for 4. The well-appointed kitchen is located on the other side of the living area. It features all of the necessities for preparing coastal cuisine and now includes a dishwasher and countertop ice maker for calming evenings with a cool drink or the ideal reprieve on a warm summer day. A buffet table offers additional kitchen storage and is also where you will find silverware, plates, retro drinkware, a Keurig and more. When it's time to retire, both bedrooms can be found across from the kitchen. One bedroom features a queen bed with a TV; the other bedroom features a full bed. Both rooms have a closet to store all of your beach clothes! The full bathroom with a shower/tub combo is located off of the kitchen as well.
Step outside onto the deck and relax on the outdoor loveseat while you soak in the sunshine and salt air. Go downstairs and head to the enormous backyard and you'll find a roomy outdoor shower - ideal for rinsing off the sand after a long day on the beach. Locals Tip: Bring your bicycles and take a ride in the evening and witness the most spectacular sunsets around!
Convenient Location for Soundside Exploration
The Captain's Quarters' prime location makes it painless for you to discover Kill Devil Hills. The Avalon Beach sound side public beach access with parking is only half a mile away. Keep heading north and you will find the sound side Hayman Pier and Gazebo, a 0.8-mile walk or bicycle ride away, and is the ideal place to watch colorful sunsets over the sound. A boat ramp access is also located close by for visitors who want to take to the water for a day of sailing, fishing, or crabbing.
One mile away you'll find a Food Lion and a Publix Supermarket for all your grocery needs, and the Wright Brothers National Memorial where you'll learn about the important role the Outer Banks played in aviation history. Craving breakfast or your morning cuppa joe? Henry's Restaurant, Ashley's Espresso Parlour, Front Porch Cafe and Dunkin Donuts are all within a mile. Also located close by is Heaven Golf & Arcade where kids of all ages will revel in miniature golf courses, a go-kart track, spin zone bumper cars, an outdoor trampoline, and more! Tricks and tips to get the best Kill Devil Hills vacation property experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting the best vacation rental in the Kill Devil Hills area:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. 5041 The Captains Quarters *1 Block to Boat Access has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
