How to get the best Kill Devil Hills vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Luxury oceanfront condo with community indoor & outdoor pools, hot tub & more has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a great stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
