Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, picking, and booking the right Kill Devil Hills rental:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. OBX TUCKED AWAY~Sound side~On canal~Kayaks~\nGround level w\/ ramp~Beach 1 mi~MP8 has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before booking the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. message the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
