Tricks and tips for getting the perfect rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the best vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Kill Devil Hills restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental home:
- Select your vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sea Glass Shack -- Pet Friendly with Hot Tub has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is best for your family.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
