Our top Rental home booking tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summertime is high season in Kill Devil Hills. Reserve your Kill Devil Hills vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your family choose vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. SW17 Seawalk Seventeen * Semi-Oceanfront has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Kill Devil Hills destination you are enamored with, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
