Our top Rental booking tips:
Finding your perfect rental:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Book your Kill Devil Hills vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Tiki Tides OBX 4-Bedroom Beach Box in Kill Devil Hills, Steps from the Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills attraction you long to visit, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Tips for a smooth stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
