Our top Kill Devil Hills rental home booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- Summer time is high season in the Kill Devil Hills area. To get the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Kill Devil Hills restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Choosing and booking your Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Arcadia: Oceanfront, Pet friendly, Hot Tub has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
