Tips to get the perfect rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- To get the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beautifully furnished townhome with access to indoor and outdoor pools! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
