Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- First, have your family choose date ranges and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. First Flight Retreat 105: Oceanfront, Shared Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Kill Devil Hills rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your trip.
- If there's a specific Kill Devil Hills destination you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. text the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
