Finding the best Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Kill Devil Hills. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the best rental in Kill Devil Hills:

  • Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Luxury Oceanfront condo with spectacular ocean views! K0010i Stokes has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • To make certain that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
