Rental booking tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guide magazines that include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- First, have your family commit to dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. SC303 Seaside Dream by First Flight Rentals has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the rental manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
