Strategies to get the best Kill Devil Hills rental experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Kill Devil Hills rental home:

  • Summer months are high season in Kill Devil Hills. To find the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Many property management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose the best rental home in Kill Devil Hills:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Station One's First Flight at Station One 2 Bedroom, Easy Access to the Oceanfront! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
