Rental booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental value:
- In the Kill Devil Hills area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. Book your Kill Devil Hills rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
How to choose the perfect vacation rental in Kill Devil Hills:
- First and foremost, have your family choose the best dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Walk on Water: Soundside, Community Pool and Clubhouse Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is right for your family.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
