How to find the best vacation property experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Kill Devil Hills area. Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfect Kill Devil Hills vacation home:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Dog-Friendly has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your group.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- To make sure no damages are linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. message the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
