Strategies to get the best Kill Devil Hills rental home experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- June, July, and August are high season in Kill Devil Hills. To book the best rental home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the best vacation rental:
- Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Bay Dream Believer: Soundfront
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges applied to your invoice.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
