Our top Rental booking tips:

How to get the best rental value:

  • In the Kill Devil Hills area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • To find the largest rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Kill Devil Hills attractions.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Canalfront Home with Dock has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
