Kill Devil Hills vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Kill Devil Hills. To get the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanside, 3 minute walk to the beach, hot tub, screened deck and rooftop deck. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
