This bungalow belonged to my grandmother, her name was Ruby.
It has been refreshed in 2023 with a completely new kitchen and bathroom, fresh paint and refinished hard wood and tile floors throughout.
The water for the bungalow is a deep well and with well water there is sometimes a bit of an odor and there can be some color also. It's all completely normal for the area, the local water treatment company says the well water on this property has some of the most balanced pH and highest mineral count they've seen on the Outer Banks so we've decided to keep the well water for now.
Keeping it simple at this centrally located milepost 8 Outer Banks bungalow.
Located off the beaten path in Colington in a peaceful neighborhood.
This bungalow is very close by the Blue Crab Tavern. You may hear some music and people having a good time over there . "The Crab" as we call it usually quiets down by 11pm, even on evenings when they have bands playing out back on the dock.
Wanna see a handsome sunset or savor a cold drink while sitting out on the dock? Walk on over and meet the owner Argie, she's one of a kind and been in business 30+ years!

Tips and Tricks to get the best Kill Devil Hills rental experience:
When to visit Kill Devil Hills & When to reserve a rental home:
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- To find the best value, try changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Kill Devil Hills vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, management companies supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the perfect vacation home in Kill Devil Hills:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Ruby's OBX Retreat is only 1 mile from the beach and has a beautiful sound view has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
