Just across the street from that bath home is Stop N Shop a known spot for a deli sandwich as well as convenience store items, OBX gifts, beach gear and fishing tackle. Very convenient to pick up everything you'll need for a great day at the beach.

Just down the road from the bungalow, one each way is the Saltbox Cafe to the left and the Colington Cafe to the right, two well known favorite eateries of the area.

You will have everything you need for an striking stay here on the Outer Banks!

This bungalow belonged to my grandmother, her name was Ruby.
It has been refreshed in 2023 with a completely new kitchen and bathroom, fresh paint and refinished hard wood and tile floors throughout.
The water for the bungalow is a deep well and with well water there is sometimes a bit of an odor and there can be some color also. It's all completely normal for the area, the local water treatment company says the well water on this property has some of the most balanced pH and highest mineral count they've seen on the Outer Banks so we've decided to keep the well water for now.
We can provide a water cooler for drinking water for guests that may prefer it.

Keeping it simple at this centrally located milepost 8 Outer Banks bungalow.

Located off the beaten path in Colington in a very peaceful neighborhood.

This bungalow is very close by the Blue Crab Tavern. You may hear some music and people having a good time over there . "The Crab" as we call it usually quiets down by 11pm, even on evenings when they have bands playing out back on the dock.
Wanna see a gorgeous sunset or savor a cold drink while sitting out on the dock? Walk on over and meet the owner Argie, this year is her 31st year in business!

Tips to get the best vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Make a plan and pick your prefect Kill Devil Hills rental home:

  • Select your dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Ruby's OBX Retreat is only 1 mile from the beach and has a beautiful sound view has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is right for your group.
  • If there's an individual Kill Devil Hills beach you are enamored with, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More considerations:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
