Tips to get the very best rental experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Reserve your Kill Devil Hills vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Kill Devil Hills area visitors guides which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Kill Devil Hills visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the perfect rental home:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Canalfront Home with Dock has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's an individual Kill Devil Hills destination you long to visit, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your stay:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
